Caribou is the project name of Daniel Victor Snaith, perviously known as Manitoba before a legal altercation with The Dictator's frontman. His music is a blend of indie infused electronica and and noisy yet dreamy pop music that often has dark undertones. The airy synths and vocals compliment the mix of simple dance beats, and complicated percussion intertwined to create a distinct sound that helped win him the 2008 Polaris Music Prize for his 7th release, Andorra. Caribou's live performance incorporates a full band and complex visual projections that have also been known to have clips of this video within. Swim, the highly anticipated follow up album, and first music to be released since his award will be released tomorrow April 20th in North America. His first single, "Odessa" has been available for free download from their website for sometime now, and with a remix contest for the single "sun" Caribou is bound to be a name you will be hearing about the rest of the year.
Caribou has been kind enough to offer a full stream preview of SWIM, no word on how long it will be up for.

RA RA RIOT is an indie pop band hailing from Syracuse, New York. Their history as a band was marked with Tragedy in June, 2007 when their drummer John Pike was found dead in Buzzards Bay, MA. The band managed to move on with their project, but the event had a profound impact on their music and they went on to release their first album, "The Rhumb Line," which catapulted their success into indie stardom. The lyrical content is extremely mature for such a young group of musicians and, Pike's death is commemorated by songs such as "Ghost Under Rocks" and "Dying Is Fine" in which lead singer Wes Miles pays tribute to their friend while maintaining a haunting, yet catchy and upbeat ambiance. With added live violin and cello, which is rarely pulled off as tastefully, their musicianship and live performance has earned them praise by the indie rock world. They haven't released an album since 2008, but still remixes are showing up, and they are heavily touring in support of the album.. you can catch them Friday at Coachella or catch them the week after when they pass through Visalia, San Luis Obispo, and Oakland. Visit their MYSPACE for full tour listing and check out their website for news RARARIOT.COM

Hockey, the Oregon based Electronic/Rock band will be at Coachella on Friday April 16th so don't miss out if your going to be sweating in the desert. Since their debut album "MIND CHAOS" released last October, Hockey has been gaining attention from some big names and even recently have lent their stems to Dj's and producers who have made their name well known in both the indie and electronic world. Here are two singles from their debut album and a bonus remix by RAC, a production collective who have been turning out remixes more suitable for the car than in the club.

LIVE FROM THE BAR: HYENA

"First things first, I would like to say how excited I am at the prospect of our new blog. My order of business is to expose and inspire for those who matter. First up, El Dorado; Thursday March 31st. Your humble servant in the blogosphere, witnessed an extraordinary display of, what we here at SDNOISE are extremely passionate about, Indie, electronic crossover music. I have to explain something that not everyone may know.. to create an electronic song requires an extensive amount of production knowledge, time, and talent.. to create a live indie band takes a lot of chutzpah and control. To be able to make both, takes a heap of talent and a boatload of attitude. HYENA has all this, with enough left over to coat the walls in unfiltered awesomeness. Mike Cooper an experienced drummer with three full length albums under his belt with Transfer and Bryan Stratman from Capricorn Studios have combined their talents and emerged with Hyena. What can I say? They nailed it, their songs are to the point in deliverance. Coopers beats are so tight you can't even fit a razor through them. Stratmans station is a schmorgesborg of pedals, knobs, wires, and lights. I am a HUGE fan of hardware spaceship consoles so two thumbs up, A+. The kicker is that this whole set up isn't for show. Bryan Stratman knows what he is doing. . I can see the communication and the level of musicianship are very present throughout their set. Their songs are neatly ambiguous enough to hypnotize the most uninterested ears into a sexually driven dance explosion. I would recommend this show to everyone. Check out their website at www.wearehyena.com to listen for yourself to their high quality productions. If your in the music business check out http://www.capricornstudios.net/ and get Bryan in on your tracks. The guys at Capricorn turn music into gold".
