Caribou is the project name of Daniel Victor Snaith, perviously known as Manitoba before a legal altercation with The Dictator's frontman. His music is a blend of indie infused electronica and and noisy yet dreamy pop music that often has dark undertones. The airy synths and vocals compliment the mix of simple dance beats, and complicated percussion intertwined to create a distinct sound that helped win him the 2008 Polaris Music Prize for his 7th release, Andorra. Caribou's live performance incorporates a full band and complex visual projections that have also been known to have clips of this video within. Swim, the highly anticipated follow up album, and first music to be released since his award will be released tomorrow April 20th in North America. His first single, "Odessa" has been available for free download from their website for sometime now, and with a remix contest for the single "sun" Caribou is bound to be a name you will be hearing about the rest of the year.
Caribou has been kind enough to offer a full stream preview of SWIM, no word on how long it will be up for.
